15 Ways Companies are Giving Back in Response to COVID-19

Businesses large and small have stepped up as we all try to do our part to protect vulnerable populations and work together to flatten the curve. Below, some of the companies working to bring corporate responsibility to life during COVID-19. This is not a complete list, so please share the stories that inspire you!

  1. Salesforce has created a $1.5 million dollar coronavirus fund for affected citizens in San Francisco.
  2. The New York Life Foundation pledged $1.7 million to help amid the coronavirus outbreak, with beneficiaries including the Center of Disaster Philanthropy’s COVID-19 Response Fund, the CDC Foundation, and First Book, providing books to schools in low-income communities experiencing closures.
  3. Sounders FC is launching a relief fund with an initial investment of $500,000 from Sounders owner Adrian Hanauer and his family to support neighborhoods surrounding CenturyLink affected by the club’s lack of matches.
  4. Yum Brands CEO David Gibbs will forgo the rest of his base salary to fund $1,000 bonuses for the company’s general managers at KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and The Habit.
  5. Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson is committed to paying its employees for the next 30 days during “stay-at-home” orders.
  6. Netflix pledges $100 million for out-of-work production crews and cast members on studio productions.
  7. Giorgio Armani donated $1.43 million dollars to four hospitals in Rome and Milan, as well as to the Civil Protection Agency.
  8. U-Haul is offering 30 days of free self-storage to all college students impacted by schedule changes at their universities.
  9. LinkedIn is opening 16 of its learning courses for free to improve remote working, use virtual meeting tools, and more.
  10. Rich Brilliant Willing, the first decorative LED manufacturer in North America to be a Certified B Corporation, is working with Budmen Industries to design 3D printed face shields, implementing Unity Pay for those who are exposed, and donating their community engagement budget to Feeding America.
  11. Avocado Mattress is making organic cotton face masks to aid in this crisis and selling them at no profit.
  12. PCC Markets is increasing wages by $2 an hour for workers, in addition to taking all the necessary health and safety precautions.
  13. Loom, a video recording, and sharing service has made Loom Pro free for teachers and students at K-12 schools, universities, and educational institutions.
  14. Distilleries including Seattle distilleries Letterpress and Batch 206 are making hand sanitizer for doctors, nurses, and first responders.
  15. Dolce & Gabbana announced that it has partnered with Humanitas University to fund a coronavirus research project.
